Since President Trump took office, the number of American churches willing to shelter undocumented immigrants from the threat of deportation has grown to about 1,000 — a small fraction of the Christian community.

In this special report for PBS NewsHour, Duarte Geraldino explores growing divisions among American Christians over US immigration policy. He takes us inside a congregation that is shielding one immigration from deportation.

“What Citizens see in the face of newcomers.” — Duarte Geraldino, United Nations Adress

In December 2017, the United Nations invited Duarte Geraldino to share his work at a stocktaking meeting as negotiations started on the upcoming Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.

His talk titled ” What Citizens see in the face of newcomers,” helped shape discussions at the beginning of this historical process. Click here to listen to his talk.

The event took place in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Hundreds of high-level diplomats, negotiators and representatives from civil society, the private sector, academia, trade unions, parliaments and National Human Rights Institutions attended the meeting. Duarte spoke during the ideas labs about perceptions and narratives surrounding newcomers and how they shape immigration policy.

Duarte Geraldino film Order Out (Expulsados)  will be screened at the Seattle Latino Film Festival on Sunday,  October  8, 2017.  The films build on his work as a journalist covering stories that connect the United States and the Dominican Republic.

In, Ordered Out, we follow the Caro family.  Both father and son are being ordered out of the United States.  Ramon Caro is being deported after spending nearly 30 years in prison, while his son is being deployed to the Middle East to defend a country that has banished his father.

En, Expulsados, conocemos la historia de la familia Caro. Padre e hijo son expulsados de los Estados Unidos. Después de casi 30 años en la prisión, Ramón Caro es deportado, mientras su hijo es desplegado al Medio Oriente a defender un país que desterró su padre.
